9/19: Software Freedom Day
On Saturday, 19 September, the Free Software Foundation will celebrate Software Freedom Day, the international holiday dedicated to recognizing and promoting software that respects computer users' freedom.
This year in Boston, free public Software Freedom Day festivities will run from 10 am to 5 pm at Encuentro5 (33 Harrison Ave., fifth floor, by the Chinatown T stop on the Orange Line). Saturday's event schedule includes workshops, demonstrations, lightning talks by attendees, and hands-on free software activism. Walter Bender, founder and director of Sugar Labs, will be the featured speaker, and activists will be on hand to share the latest news about the Windows 7 Sins campaign, the anti-DRM campaign Defective By Design, the struggle for free video formats, and efforts to stop software patents.
