Organizing Conference 12:45 – 1:15
This summer the Detroit local of the Socialist Party USA will be hosting our National Organizing Conference. Members who want to lead workshops should prepare proposals. Comrades from the New England region will coordinate transportation plans.
Lunch 1:15 – 2:00
We will probably order delivery or take-out, depending on what people want. No one goes hungry!
Discussion: The Clash of Civilizations? 2:00 – 3:00
We will have a discussion led by Satya Ray Pitambar Mohapatra on the questions raised by the Danish Cartoon depicting the Prophet Muhammad. In this contentious climate, we must defend Muslims against bigotry yet also oppose authoritarian fundamentalism. How do we balance the separation of church and state with multiculturalism? What alliances should be made in the struggle against imperialism? We recommend reading the National Executive Statement of Denmark's Red-Green Alliance as a starting point for discussion.
Mass Voters for Fair Elections 3:00 – 3:15
We need Socialist Party activists to take a leading role in organizations like MVFE for fair ballot access, public campaign financing, and truly representative legislative bodies.
Elections 2006 3:15 – 4:00
We have candidates in Vermont and Massachusetts who need our support. Some candidates will need help to get on the ballot. A national listing of SPUSA candidates is at www.votesocialist.info
Regional Structure 4:00 – 4:30
How can we coordinate our efforts on the regional level and support at-large members?
Upcoming Events 4:30 – 5:00
Hampshire Conference: From Abortion Rights to Social Justice, May Day, Gay Pride Marches, more...
