Eugene Victor Debs was the most successful Socialist presidential candidate in US history. On June 16, 1918 Debs delivered this speech to the Ohio Socialist Party State Convention. He spoke against the slaughter of WWI, the hypocricy of war propaganda, and advocated for international solidarity between workers of all nations. Debs was imprisoned for violating the Espionage Act of 1917 which prohibited interfering with the recruitment of troops. Join us for a reading of Debs’ speech on this national NOT YOUR SOLDIER day of action. Celebrate free speech and the right to resist military recruitment!
