Teachers Strike for their Rights in British Columbia

When: 7:00PM, Monday, Nov. 14th
Where: Bangs Community Center, Amherst

In British Columbia, Canada, 42,000 teachers are on strike against new provincial laws banning strike activity. Despite being declared in contempt of court, support for the strike remains high. At our next Tom Mooney local meeting we will discuss the union movement for teachers, and how it relates to teaching assistants at UMass. Our discussion will begin with an article from the November issue of Labor Notes "Ignoring New Legislation, Teachers Strike in British Columbia."

Contact us for a copy of the article or for a ride to the meeting.

We will also have a report back from our National Convention last month in Newark, New Jersey, and make plans for a local action for December 10th, International Human Rights Day.
