10/3: Rosie Jimenez Day
Join the Socialist Party and feminist groups at noon in Harvard Square, to demand abortion access and the repeal of the Hyde Amendment. The Hyde Amendment, first passed by Congress in 1976 and repeatedly renewed, restricts the use of Medicaid funding for abortions.
Rosie Jimenez was the first known victim of the Hyde Amendment. Prevented from receiving a safe abortion by the Hyde Amendment, this 27-year-old mother from McAllen, Texas, died from complications arising from an unsafe abortion. Her death came on 3 October 1977, just weeks after the Hyde Amendment went into effect.
This October 3rd, Rosie Jiménez Day, speak out in her memory and demand an end to restrictive laws, to the wholly inadequate number of abortion facilities and providers, and to discrimination against young, low-income, and immigrant women, and women of color. Noon in Harvard Square.
