The Socialist Party stands for municipal ownership and control of energy plants, in a non-profit and decentralized, but coordinated, system that ensures the most careful use of natural resources. 1. We call for the development of alternative energy sources including solar, geothermal, wind, hydropower, and biomass to end dependence on fossil fuels. 2. We call for a sliding-scale index which favors low-income people, to ensure that all people have access to utility services. 3. We call for mandatory vitrification (encapsulation) of all spent nuclear fuel, control rods and other waste. 4. We call for a ban on all imports of nuclear materials, whether they are vitrified or not.
