Socialist Party National Committee Minutes: November 2008
-

Meeting of the National Action Committee
Held by e-mail ballot on November 24-27, 2008

Attending:
Andrea Pason, Peter Moody, Nan Pfefferle, Greg Pason, Jerry Stastny and William Wharton.

Motion:
A letter written by former SPUSA presidential candidate Brian Moore which was recently posted at www.votebriamoore.com website misrepresents the principles and position of the SPUSA toward president elect Barack Obama.

Since the letter is posted on a website promoted by Brian Moore as a campaign website, and since the letter implies that is was agreed to by the Party, we ask that Brian take the letter off the site immediately to avoid further confusion. Motion passed 4 yes Andrea P., Peter M., Jerry S. and Greg P. 2 no William W. and Nan P.

Clarifying statement by William W. I vote no to the proposed letter to Brian Moore.  My vote has nothing to do with the content of the letter. It is, instead, a vote about organizational structure.  Attempting to place content restrictions on Brian after he has run a campaign where he has developed public positions without much in the way of oversight by the NC is wrong.  I consider the letter to Obama to be a lesson for four years from now - namely that a rapid response group set up by the NC needs oversight on public communications.  For now I would let it be and move along.  The party can clarify its position vis-a-vis Obama in a myriad of other ways.
