Meeting of the Socialist Party USA National Action Committee
Dec 12, 2007
By phone-conference

Attending:
Andrea Pason, Jerry Levy, NanPfefferle, Greg Pason and Jennifer Kremmel.
Observing (invited) Brian Moore, David Schaich, Eric Chester, Matt Erard, and Peter Diamondstone.
Stewart Alexander could not attend due to a previous engagement.

Meeting called to order at 9:05 pm by Jerry Levy who chaired.

Greg suggested splitting the California/ PFP business from other business (oversight committee, campaign communication) and the committee agreed.

Point of clarification on the situation:
Eric Chester stated that we understood at the Convention that unsuccessful candidates for presidential nomination would withdraw from the California Peace & Freedom Party (PFP) primary, and Stewart Alexander has not submitted paperwork to do so by the deadline.

Matt Erard reported that Stewart has made it clear that he is debating as the vice-presidential candidate of the Socialist Party USA and Stewart feels it would be helpful to the campaign if he (as a California PFP activist) attended the debates. He said that Stewart said votes for him in the PFP primary would go toward the Moore/Alexander slate at the PFP convention (when the actual nomination is made).

The NAC discussed how to deal with the PFP pre-primary forums/debates where (presumably) both Brian and Stewart will appear. It discussed whether there should be instruction to Stewart Alexander not to appear since it might confuse voters.

Motion: 1. The National Committee requests that Stewart Alexander issue a public statement urging voters in the Peace and Freedom Party (PFP) primary to vote for Brian Moore as the PFP presidential nominee. This statement should also make clear that Stewart Alexander is not seeking the Peace and Freedom presidential nomination and will not accept it if offered.

2. The National Committee urges Stewart Alexander to refrain from participating in the forums for presidential candidates being organized by the Peace and Freedom Party for January 2008. The NC encourages Stewart Alexander to attend these forums as a member of the audience. When he is present, Brian Moore will publicly recognize Stewart Alexander as the Socialist Party's vice-presidential candidate. Should Brian Moore not be able to attend a particular forum, Stewart Alexander will be asked to participate as Brian Moore's representative, in his capacity as the Socialist Party's vice-presidential candidate

Motion passed 4 yes and i abstention (Greg Pason)

The NAC discussed ways to improve communications between the NC and campaign.

Motion: To create a Campaign Communication Committee to serve as a liaison committee between the Party and the presidential and vice-presidential candidates. The Committee will be composed of David Schaich, Peter Moody, and Diane Drufenbrock. Motion passed unanimously.

Meeting adjourned
Minutes by Greg Pason

Note: Resolution on California PFP primary was called to a NC mail ballot
