Constitution of the Socialist Party of Massachusetts

Article I. Name and Affiliation

a) The name of this organization shall be the Socialist Party of Massachusetts.
b) The Socialist Party of Massachusetts shall be the official state party of Massachusetts for the Socialist Party USA and shall be bound by all rules that apply to state affiliates.

Article II. Membership

a) Members must maintain good standing with the Socialist Party USA in order to remain in good standing with the Socialist Party of Massachusetts.
b) Socialist Party of Massachusetts members shall pay dues to the state party on an annual basis as set by the state convention.
c) All members shall enjoy equal rights and privileges, including participation and voting rights at the state convention.

Article III. State Convention

a) The state convention of the Socialist Party of Massachusetts is the highest decision making body of the party. The state convention is empowered to levy dues, institute party policy and elect officers.
b) A state convention shall be organized on an annual basis by the state executive committee.

Article IV. State Executive Committee

a) The State Executive Committee is charged with setting a budget, administering party policy, and conducting political affairs inbetween State Conventions.
b) The State Executive Committee shall consist of officers as set by the state convention.

Article V. The Constitution, By-Laws, and Policies

a) The Constitution shall serve as the basis of the party¿s organization and may only be amended by a two-thirds majority at the state convention.
b) By-laws may only be introduced, amended or abolished at the state convention by a simple majority. By-laws shall remain in force indefinitely.
c) Party policies may be set by the state convention or state executive committee by a simple majority. Policies shall remain in force for up to four years unless otherwise stated.
