The "Ironbound"
The Ironbound is a
large working-class neighborhood in Newark, New Jersey. This
close-knit, multi-ethnic community covers approximately four square
miles (10 km²). Historically, the area was called "Dutch Neck,"
"Down Neck," or simply "the Neck," because of the way the Passaic River
curved to form what looked like a neck. Today, the neighborhood is
sometimes referred to as "Little Portugal" owing to its large
Portuguese community. more
